about
Still Tea is Stellar Moon’s funky feisty response to a life time of people questioning her Aboriginality due to the colour of her skin. It’s based on a well-known saying among First Nations people; “No matter how much milk you pour in the tea, it’s still tea”.
'Written in a memory more to my younger days... as you get older, it's enough to just KNOW WHO YOU ARE.. & where you come from'
Leading with powerful vocals, punchy horn lines and an ending that’s all soul, the song beckons us to all raise the bar to seek and expand knowledge when it comes to working and interacting with First Nations people.
It is the second single off Stellar Moon’s debut album ‘Phases’.
lyrics
Think you know it all when you’re talking
Stumbling the road when you’re walking
Let you once across the boundary
Not again, anymore, not me
Wonder if you’re done with the asking
Pulling me apart bit by bit
Let me share you this secret
Just once, no more, you see
Here I’m trying – You better help me out now
Pick your battle, raise your standards, pour a cup for me – it’s still tea
Still tea, still me, I’m free and I’ve found you guilty.
Still tea, still me, yeah
Packed me in your neat little boxes
Calling the names while they’re watching
Let you push up against me
Not again, anymore, I’m free
Here I’m trying - Help me out now
Pick your battle, raise your standards, Pour a cup for me – it’s still tea
Still tea, Still me, I’m free and I’ve found you guilty.
Still tea, still me, yeah
Raise it up, raise it up, raise it up, raise it up x 4
Soak up the knowledge, listen don’t speak,
All of my standards are high, don’t you question me
We’ve got to better, we’ve got to do better than this
Our children deserve it, we’ve got to do better than this
Raise it up, raise it up, raise it up, raise it up x 4
